happy new year everybody:)

It's 2009! I haven't posted in this blog for a while so I thought I should post something on the first day of new year.

My new year resolutions:

1) Not to cry (which is kinda impossible. haha)

2) Get good results.

3) stay healthy.

4) be a good girl like i have always been*ahem ahem* hehehe

My very few achievements last year:

1) I worked in ASIA insurance for a week and earned my first salary.

2) I made new friends from PTEB, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Jamaica, Japan and England.

3) I got the scholarship to study in England.

4) I got High Distinction for my Australia Maths Competition (wheeee~ I couldnt fall asleep after hearing this. haha)

5) I received the Bronze award for my UKMT (maths competition in UK). [not very good though.. no gold in our school. about 10? got silver and some got bronze]

6) I have learned to hold back my tears.

7) I learned how to cook some easy stuff. haha

8) I can knit now. Wheee~

9) i have experienced a lot of stuff which i have never tried before: ice skating, bowling, archery, having christmas dinner and so on..

10) I survived 4 months and 4 days so far without my family.

- 185 more days to go back to Brunei:D

hehe. I miss everybody and hope that everyone is doing well:) May God bless all of you with the best of luck and health in the new year.

My Own Place

Hi All

I have moved out. Got myself a nice small place to stay. It's about 10min drive from the old house so it's still convenient for me to come back and visit parents everyday.

I will post the pictures of my new place once i have gone and see seifu tomorrow for her blessing. Then i will brings parents back to my place to have a look.

It's nice to come back to a place i can call my own and not having to see people's face or having to endure people giving you the cold shoulder. Moi you should know what i mean by that since we received the same treatment by the same people :D

hi everyone

its been a crazy week... i got a lot of stuff going on since chris is moving to san jose in a week. so we have been bogged down w little but significant things. i dont even know where to start. i have 2 more weeks of classes then my finals.

been looking at transferring to Devry University coming Jan but decided it was best i stayed in Vancouver since i only have 7 more courses to be able to call myself an accountant. then i have to look into how to get my CPA certification in the States to practise accounting as a professional....

so i got 4 wisdom teeth yanked out on friday. one was a lil surgery. i thought i wud be in worse shape but i m ok. onlotsa drugs. kinda groggy, not really swollen. but very annoyed over the fact that i cannot succumb to my cravings of fried food and chocolate. had soup noodles 3 days in a row! it ridiculous...

bad day

sigh. today is probably one of the worst days of my life. what could be more worse than having 3 exams on the same day, while you're sick and at the same time you're PMS-ing?? the fever's not getting any better, this morning when i woke up my nose bleed lagi. aiya why like that one.. maybe its just stress lo.. i am so frustrated!!!!!

i was in school from 8am-5pm for god's sake! arggh.

the day started with General Paper exam. ok lo the paper wasn't so hard. Had to do an essay, and out of the 12 choices, i chose: "Analyse the advantages and disadvantages of globalization for your country and its citizens" And i spent 3 freakin hours sticking my butt on the chair doing that question!

Then after that i had my Chemistry Paper 2. Oh i'd rather not talk about it lo. No hope liao. lol. it was so cold in the exam hall. and im having my fever lagi, you could clearly see beads of cold sweat forming on my forehead one. the paper was sooooo hard, i couldn't really think lo because of the headache, the pain was excruciating! :"(

then finally had my Chemistry Paper 5, which was ok. but didn't finish. haha. poor time management. *sobs*

5 papers to go.. and 8 days to total freedom!!! cant wait!!!!!!!

Hiya everyone! Thanks for giving me the opportunity to share in your families blog. I will try my best to keep of abreast of developments here.

Wan Shin has been with us for a few days of her mid-term and its been very nice. The kids are also off from school so gives opportunity to get out and do anything that comes to mind. Funnily enough they did not go out much! The weather has been a bit cold brrrr....

Edda, all the best for your move to California. The land of turkeys, avocado's, rodeo's and of course our favorite muscle man - Arnie! I am sure you will like it there. Hope it goes all well for your and Chris.

Well Biaw, well done! Muscle after muscle you are building your career quite nicely. We are very happy for you and hope that you continue to grow successful and happy!

hey everyone...

its been a rough week for me. finally sat for my last mid term exam. corporate finance is not an entertaining course at all... grrr... and to make it all more complicated, i will be moving to SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA!!!!

chris got a job offer there that we can't turn down coz it wud pave a great future for the both of us. sooooo the decision is made. we r moving to california! this decision came bout bout less than a week ago, in the middle of midterms and stuff. so had to figure out if i wanted to transfer my accoounting courses over (or if thats even possible coz accounting rules n tax laws are a little different in canada and the states).... or if i wanted to stay here on my own for another half yr and finish.

we pretty much decided. i will stay in vancouver and he will move first (he has to start work in less than a mth). that sucks! =( i m gonna be lonely. and u will defnitely see me blogging here more than i should. lol. considering i shud be catching up on my case studies.... blah!

My Job

Hello all sorry for no updates for so long..

I have a job!! I have been appointed as the logistic manager for the upcoming Heart of Borneo expedition in Brunei. I will be in charge of organising and coordinating the logistic part of the expedition e.g. getting tickets for foreign scientists, transportation to the place etc. And i will of course be working on my own PhD as well. This is a great opportunity for me as this job wil be directly relevant to my future career. Really looking forward to that..

Another exicting news is my future career is confirmed as soon as i finish my PhD at the end of next year.. i am so lucky to have so many important people to look after me.. all God's help..

Was asking ah liang to go shower just now and how he is so lazy to go mandi.. and ah bu said when i was small i was even worse than that!! as if i don't know.. when i was small, ah bu had to drag me to go shower and i could still remember how she used to wash my hair and pour cold water all over my face.. I hate SHOWER!!!!

Tomorrow we are celebrating ah bu's birthday at home.. so will order food from thiam hock.. girl your mum asked me to sms you and ask what you want to eat.. so cruel ah her.. he he he

When you were small, do you know that you were quite stubborn?? I am sure now also bah huh?? But you were so adorable especially when you were small your eyes were like ah kong, one big one small :) The eyes were so obvious that we all thought you looked so mich like ah kong..

so, im confused. are we suppose to reminisce? is that the whole purpose of this blog? i was hopin everyone cud update their status, whats going on w them and stuff every now and then. as u all may know, i m not very good at keepin in touch, there is some of u who i have literally not spoken to in more than 3 years!!!

so whats up w everyone? i m still the same. living in vancouver, back in school again. decided a Bsc in biology isnt getting me where i wanna be eventually. workin part time and pretty much being a bum. chris(my fiance) and i are goin back to brunei on 23rd dec this year. so i hope to see u all then!!

What is Osmanthus?

So my dear people.. what is Osmanthus le?? For those of you who managed to find out, good for you. For those of you who are slow.. here you go..



Osmanthus fragrans (Sweet Osmanthus; Chinese: 木樨 mùxī; Japanese: 金木犀 kinmokusei; also known as Sweet Olive, Tea Olive and Fragrant Olive) is a species of Osmanthus native to Asia, from the Himalaya east through southern China (Guizhou, Sichuan, Yunnan) to southern Japan.



Sweet osmanthus is also the 'city flower' of Hangzhou, China.


It is an evergreen shrub or small tree growing to 3–12 m tall. The leaves are 7–15 cm long and 2.6–5 cm broad, with an entire or finely toothed margin. The flowers are white, pale yellow, yellow, or orange-yellow, small (1 cm long), with a four-lobed corolla 5 mm diameter, and have a strong fragrance; they are produced in small clusters in the late summer and autumn. The fruit is a purple-black drupe 10–15 mm long containing a single hard-shelled seed; it is mature in the spring about six months after flowering.



So what's the big deal here? Ok it's a plant and the city flower of Hangzhou? So??



In Chinese, the plant is called xī (樨) or mùxī (木樨), and its flowers, called guì huā (桂花, literally "cinnamon flower" or "cassia flower") are used, infused with green or black tea leaves, to create a scented tea called guì huā chá (桂花茶).


In Chinese cuisine, the flowers are also used to produce osmanthus-scented jam (called guì huā jiàng, 桂花醬 or 桂花酱), sweet cakes (called guì huā gāo, 桂花糕), dumplings, soups, and even liquor (called guì huā jiǔ, 桂花酒; or 桂花陈酒, guì huā chén jiǔ).[1] Osmanthus jam is used as an ingredient in a type of gruel called chátāng (茶汤), which is made from sorghum or millet flour and sugar mixed with boiling water. This dish is typical of the northern city of Tianjin, although it may also be found in Beijing.
